TV News: Project Update

TV News: Project Update:

Today we had our ideas workshop with Joe. It was a productive session and the group functioned well as a team (most members anyway).

After some deliberation and careful consideration both among the group and with Joe we decided to peruse our ideas on electric cars (which I had previously been involved in researching). Although Alex's idea definitely had potential access was proving difficult. And after talking to Joe she was very enthused by the electric car idea and gave us some good pointers about how we should angel it and who we should aim the broadcast at.

The angle: we want to find out if electric cars really are the future, how do they compare to current fossil fuled cars and can they really replace them all together. If so why hasn't it happened already?

The live interview: we are hoping to find an engineer or manufacturer that has expertise in electric cars ("the specialist"). We want to ask them the above points about electric cars and find out just how efficient they really are.

The package: we want to find an electric car dealership so that we can demonstrate what electric cars are on the market, how affordable they are, and potentially test drive one.

The Audience: We were at first hoping to aim at a young audience but after discussions with Joe we realized that they would not be the main consumers of electric cars. So we may open aim for our audience to be 30-40. The question now is do we focus solely on electric cars as our brand or open it up to all tech, this is something we will need to discuss further down the line.

The Highs
We are making great progress with our idea and are on schedule.

I am particularly enthused by this idea and I think it has real potential.

Myself and most of my group have already found phone numbers of potential contacts and will begin contacting them tomorrow.

There is more than one way we can look at this topic, it is very relevant and there are lots of angles and a variety of sources to look at.

The Lows
I am very concerned about Andrew's commitment to this project. he has had a lack of input in all group sessions. When discussing our ideas he didn't particularly contribute to any group discussions. He did not say anything when Jo checked on our progress either.

We have set up several important online documents which Andrew has not looked at.

We have set up multiple chat options, carefully taking Andrew in to account when setting each one up, so that we could communicate outside of university times. However he has not responded to any of these efforts and despite frequent messages on multiple platforms has yet to contribute to any one of our discussions.

he appears to have done minimal research despite us providing him with a "to do list" (we have the documentation to prove this) and we only find out from his blog that he doesn't particularly like our idea (yet he never raised this in any of our discussions).

Frankly i am concerned about his commitment (or lack of) to this project. He lacks the resolve to express his opinions yet still resents group decisions.
I am concerned that his lack of commitment could jeopardise the idea that we have already made so much progress with (which I don't think we should be changing at this stage of development) and his poor group work ethos could potentially be harmful to this project as a whole.
