TV News: The Re-Write
OK, so after a considering all the points raised by Helen and a lengthy group discussion we as a group have decided to re-write our script to approach things from a slightly different angel.
Note- the shoot schedule on this blog has been updated to fit the re-write.
While a re-write is not ideal at this stage in the project, it was necessary and in my opinion strengthened our project for reasons I will go on to explain.
A change of angel
The biggest change to our script is the angle we are taking, or rather the question we want to answer.
Before, our idea was to directly look at electric cars and their future. However for reasons I will go in to shortly, we thought it best too change this. Instead now we are going to be looking at the cost of motoring.
How Cheap is it to run a car in today's economy?
What other options are there and how do they compare?
What do the public think?
Reasons for the change
There are a few reasons for our this change, some of which arose in Helen's meeting, others arose as difficulties in finding contributors.
Smart Electric car- For some time we were in communication with Smart who were willing to let us test drive one of their electric models for our project, a plan was based around this. However the other day they told us that it had unfortunately been sold and they didn't have another model for us to use (and we had already tired every other electric car dealership).
This meant we didn't have access to an electric car and had to adjust our plans accordingly.
Helen's thoughts and contributors- When Helen examined our idea she thought we were to biased and suggested we find additional contributors. She also said that we needed to make sure our facts were accurate.
We tried to find a mechanic that was willing to be interviewed in person, but at such short notice all we could get was a phone interview (which we can quote). So we couldn't bring two apposing forces together that easily.
Instead we re-wrote our script to have a more skeptical view of electric cars during the package, looking in to viability and upfront cost. We will also undergo a test in a petrol car to find the cost of a journey and then compare it to official figures to get an average figure that is as accurate as possible (accuracy is key as Helen said).
Then as we transition in to our interview we will use the quotes from our mechanics to set the tone on other travel options. Then talk to AJay about this and ask his opinions which will hopefully bring a more positive tone, leaving us overall with a balanced view.
Branding
Fortunately the re write won't interfere much with our branding (carology) since we are looking at cutting edge developments in the car industry and modern motoring. Cost is something our audience would be interested in and electric cars are still a feature.
Screenshots of our updated script can be seen bellow.
