TV News: Carology Social Media

TV News: Carology Social Media

As part of our branding we decided to create some social media for our brand/news channel (carology) treating it as if it were a real professional platform.

E-mail
I began by setting up a Gmail account (upon Alex's recommendation) so that we could refer any interviewees or potential contacts to our "businesses" email as it seems for professional. This would also give us easy access to other social media sites.

Twitter

Setting up a twitter account for our brand is something I had been keen to suggest for some time and I was glad to hear that the others were very supportive of the idea.

Using the logo Alex made i set up a businesses twitter account that we could use to update our audience on how the story is coming together, and also share important research and developments in the car tech industry as if we were a real brand.

I am looking forward to regularly updating this as if we were the social media managers as well as researchers for "Carology".

Instagram
Upon the popularity of the twitter idea, Alex suggested we use Instagram as our second platform as it is a great tool for giving people behind the scenes glimpses as our project develops. It lets as share pics of the vehicles we visit and provide "corporate" and "press release" images of electric vehicles and other cool car tech developments/news that support our brand.

I wrote a bio for each site and made sure we kept a consistent house style, befitting of our brand. We made sure that the passwords for each site were shared among the group so we can all access the accounts at any time. At the moment although I am updating both i'm focusing on twitter as it is good for sharing news articles, updates etc. and Alex is posting a lot of behind the scenes shots on Instagram. I try to keep it as professional and brand appropriate as possible.

Benefits
There are multiple benefits to this idea which led us to setting up the accounts. These include but are not limited to:
  • Giving behind the scenes peaks
  • Giving us a place for us to collate our research
  • Allowing us to regularly check our progress
  • Expanding the depth of our brand and making it as professional and realistic as possible.
  • Helps us delegate tasks and resources if anyone feels they're roll is lacking.
  • It is a resource we can utilize when presenting and helps fill out the screen if there are a lack of appropriate graphics to display.
Difficulties
However there were one or two difficulties we encountered when setting this up.
  • Firstly finding a name, although "caroloogy" is our original idea and not copyrighted, for some reason that name was taken so we had to settle for names like "carology updates".
  • Consistency, although we are usually on the same wavelength Alex and i sometimes clash. For example I want to keep the brand as professional as possible where as he sometimes posts cheesy or irrelevant photos that distract from our brand.
