Documentry: Idea Development
Last week after variouse group discussions we had come up with an initial idea/concept that we hoped we could expand upon further to shape our documentry around it. Since then we each came up with a few more ideas of our own to use as a back up. My idea was moving slightly away from animal rescue centres and more towards guide dogs and disability assitant dogs. I felt it was a slightly broader area that can be more relatable to a young audience especially if we could follow the life of a young person with a disability dog.
However then it was time for our 1 to 1 idea session with Zoe. We disscussed each of our ideas in detail and looked at teh possible ways that they could be built upon. However ultimately we decided that there wasn't a good enough reason to make this documentry. their needed to be some kind of mass media outcry or rapid concern regarding disability dogs, and it was settled that there just wasn't enough reason or interest surrounding the topic.
That was where our group's (specifically Ethen's) backup ideas came in very useful. After discussing a handful of ideas such as prostetic limbs (as a topic relating to disability) palm oil, mental health etc. We ultimatly decided that the best idea and the one with the most potential to shape a documentry around; was obecity and media pressure.
There were a number of sub topic's within this idea that we could cover. Including but not limited to: media and social media pressure regarding fat shaming, and how you should look; celebrity fad diet indorsements; health officials advice VS medai advice on weight gain (with interveiws looking at both); weight loss chalanges; teh price of living sugar/fat free (is it more expensive to eat healthy?), and gaiging young peoples opinions on how they feel abiut weight representation and how it affects their daily lives, both mentally and physically.
The working title we have for this idea is currently: How Much Does Your Fat Cost?
This seemed very fitting for a BBC3 documentry and although the topic has been touched on before, there are a vast number of new areas within the idea that we can cover. I will continue to update this blog as the idea and title develop.
