Documentary: Factual Programming
Factual programming is an overall term used not just to describe documentary's, but any real life programming based on non fictional events.
In order to create a watchable programme there are certain things you need: commentry, Archive footage, Interviews, characters, Actuality, and a basic narrative.
All factual films are constructed to some extent, no matter what stage you are working on, human influence/intervention is unavoidable. You must be careful not to let personal opinions and human influence, interfeer with the truth and reality of the subject.
You can get in to a lot of trouble if you are caught faking/staging certain parts of your factual programing.
However depending on your genre of programming it becomes more aceptable to stage or re create/re enact parts of the programming e.g. History, Factual Entertainment (X-Factor), Drama re creations etc.
Current Affairs programming are often presenter led, and cover hard hitting relevant topics.
Documentry's can be defined as: an artistic representation of reality. They have to inform us of things we weren't previously aware of, and must remain interesting.
There are common conventions of the documentry format including:
.Style, narrative, commentry, dramatasation and much more...
