Documentry: Footage Review And Lecture
For today's lecture we began by reviewing the footage that we recorded on Wednesday. We discussed the posatives and negatives of our framing focus, lighting sound levles etc.
We went over that before filming you should always check the following: Sound; White Balance; Exposure; Focus; Framing.
Lecture Notes
All TV even non fiction is scripted. Documentries are just scripted to a lesser extent than fiction, however they still require a detailed plan and if possible a shot list.
Documentry scripting can utalise any of the following: Sequences; interviews; reconstructions; actuallity; cutaways; syncs; comentry and many more.
But it is important to remember to show an audience something rather than tell them as far as possible.
Writing Conventions: When writing a script for your documentry it is important to keep things brief and to the point so you tend to shorten words e.g. SEQ=Sequence ACT=Actuality C/A=Cutaways etc.
When writing your script make sure you keep a note of the version number so that you can send people the most up to date version, and you know where to look for a backup.
When finding the narative for your doc, it is important to make it feel natural. Try to capture actuality and events as they happen so that you can be at the centre of the action. Commentry should be the last thing you record an should meerly explain teh narative not create it.
Some things can be captured naturally but the vast magority of events should at least have been atempted to direct or control so that they look best on camera.
